An Evening in Celebration of Nat “King” Cole

March 17, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

$50

Nat King ColeJazz pianist, vocalist, tv personality — Nat “King” Cole was the whole package. “He is, without a doubt, the single biggest record-seller of his generation,” music historian Will Friedwald told NPR. “The only one that comes close is — a generation later — is Elvis. I mean, Nat Cole just has hit single after hit single, and nobody could come near him. Even Sinatra.”

“Mona Lisa,” “Nature Boy,” “The Christmas Song,” “Rambling Rose,” “Walking My Baby Back Home” — he recorded 100 songs and had so many hits he helped put the fledgling Capitol Records on the map.

Celebrate the centennial of iconic jazz legend Nat “King” Cole with a special evening in the Roscoe Room at Alvin & Friends. Cascadu, the Trinidadian born vocalist/percussionist, composer, marine scientist and educator, brings his star-studded Jazz ensemble to the Roscoe room at Alvin & Friends to pay homage to the great Nat “King” Cole on his centennial birthday, Sunday, March 17, 2019 at 6 pm.  This musical tribute will explore the elegance, sophistication and style of Nat’s life and music, and reflect on his relevance in today’s music. Featuring Cascadu – Vocals, Special Guest:  NEA Jazz Master, Jimmy Owens – Trumpet/Flugelhorn, Mark Sherman – Piano, Rocky Middleton – Acoustic Bass, Carl Allen – Drums and Dave Stryker – Guitar. $50 per person includes a special prix fixe dinner menu.
